China Tightens Dangerous Goods Rules From Ningbo
Dangerous goods shipments from Ningbo port are now subject to stricter controls, following the explosion aboard the Yang Ming Mobility at the end of August.
The new rule has been imposed by the country’s Maritime Safety Administration (MSA), and applies to all cargo moving via Ningbo port, which now makes it mandatory to provide a dangerous goods declaration (DGD) and a material safety data sheet (MSDS) at least 72 hours prior to a vessel cut-off date.
The new rule could be the first of many, which may be expanded to other Chinese ports, after a shipment of class 5.2 organic peroxide exploded in a container aboard the docked Yang Ming Mobility, sending flames and debris 200ft into the air.
