Two Ships Collide Carrying Dangerous Goods
A containership crashed into an oil tanker carrying jet fuel this week, which led to multiple explosions and fires on board, with one crew member missing, presumed dead.
The incident occured Monday in the North Sea, off the coast of Hull, when the containership “Solong’ crashed into the tanker while it was anchored, which has led to its captain being arrested by Humberside Police on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
Sadly, a rescue operation was unable to find the missing crew member and has now been called off.
The oil tanker ‘Stena Immaculate’ was carrying 220,000 barrels of hazardous jet fuel for the US military, which is naturally assumed to be the cause of the explosions.
It was initially believed that the containership was carrying 15 containers of class 6 sodium cyanide, although more recent reports suggest that they had been discharged previously.
36 crew members from America, Russia and the Philippines were brought safely to shore and are helping police with the investigation.
