French Strikes Continue This Week
The next French strike action is planned and expected this Friday, 28th April, as the public continue to demonstrate against pension reforms that move the retirement age from 62 to 64.
It’s the Labour Day public holiday on Monday, 1st May, and unions have called for strikes on Friday along with large scale demonstrations on the holiday itself.
The ongoing dispute started at the back end of last year when President Macron pushed through the changes in pension without a parliamentary vote. Last week’s action saw a reduced number of protestors, but flights, trains, trucks and ferries were inevitably impacted to varying degrees.
Importers, exporters and logistics providers have learned to live with the disruption, but there may be some small delays on shipments travelling through France during the next few days.
