Fatal Dangerous Goods Explosion Rocks Iranian Port
More than 70 people tragically lost their lives and another 1200 have been injured in a massive dangerous goods explosion at one of Iran’s key ports.
The eruption took place Saturday evening at Shahid Rajaee, the Middle East nation’s largest commercial port, just near the major city of Bandar Abbas in the South.
Nearby buildings, infrastructure and vehicles were totally destroyed by the spread of fire and the impact of the blast was felt up to 30 miles away.
While the cause has not officially been announced, it is widely believed that dangerous missile fuel from China was to blame.
Following the blast, a full shutdown of the Bandar Abbas area was by the Iranian Ministry of Health, due to the release of pollutants such as ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide into the city’s atmosphere.
Similarities can be made with the Beirut port disaster of 2020, when over 200 people were killed in an explosion triggered by ammonium nitrate.
