Dangerous Goods On Flight Cause Diplomatic Spat

June 19, 2023

Unapproved dangerous goods sparked a diplomatic spat between Poland and South Africa recently as an aircraft was detained in Warsaw.

The undeclared shipment was on a flight that stopped over in the Polish capital, originally en route to Ukraine, when Polish officials stepped in. It is understood that the dangerous goods product is restricted from entering Poland.

The diplomatic dispute broke out as the South African president was a passenger on the flight and was part of a peace mission of African leaders due to meet the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

South Africa has faced criticism for not condemning Russia during the Ukraine conflict and has reportedly been accused of providing weapons to Russia.
